Calling
CARES Teams should feel called to serve. While a subsidized apartment is a helpful benefit of CARES, it should not serve as the primary motivation.
Balance
CARES is a significant time commitment of approximately 8-10 hours per week (per team member). It should be seen as a part-time job. CARES Teams must be able to fulfill their commitments to God, family, themselves, job, church, and CARES. CARES events not only demand your time, but physical and emotional energy as well.
Teamwork
CARES is designed as a team program. While one team member may take the lead, both members must be able and willing to make significant contributions. Most events require both team members’ participation. Because teams must work together extensively, it is important that team members have a good working relationship and know each other well. It is against Apartment Life's policy to match teammates or to hire 2 single adults who do not know each other.
Commitment
The effectiveness of the CARES program is directly related to the longevity and consistency of the team, so each CARES Team commits to 24 months of service. In addition, each CARES Team commits to a $250 / month CARES Team fee. A partial refund of fees is given to all teams who meet or exceed their 24 month commitment. Church Support
CARES Teams should be connected to a local church and will be placed at a community within 10 miles of their church. Sponsor churches are encouraged to be supportive of CARES (i.e. provide volunteers and access to church resources).
